In this time of uncertainty and change, I want to remind you that you are not alone. We are all in this together. I hope this finds you, your family and loved ones safe and healthy.
We are all in transition right now as we wrap our heads around what is going on around us and adjust to social distancing, quarantines and a new way of virtual living and working. I know in times like this, it is easy to get lost in the chaos of life. Here are 4 things you can do to help you stay grounded in times of uncertainty.
While we may be encouraged to distance ourselves physically, times like these can actually bring us closer together. Practice physical distancing, not social distancing. Use this time to build connections and relationships. Reconnect with those you’ve lost touch with; connect with those you love and reach out to those that may need support. You can stay in close contact with family, friends, loved ones and co-workers through social media, slack, zoom or any other virtual communication platform. Virtual Happy Hour anyone 🙂
Mindfulness is the state of being conscious or aware of something in the present moment. In the mist of uncertainty and chaos, I can’t think of a better time to count our blessings and be grateful for everything that we have in this present moment. When you wake, instead of reaching for your phone to scroll social media, emails or COVID-19 updates – I encourage you to take a few moments to breathe deep and create a mental gratitude list to start your day with gratitude, mindfulness and a positive mindset. Explore with meditation, prayer or morning journaling if you want to dive deeper into mindfulness and gratitude.
Exercise is a great way to release built up emotions, stress and/or physical tension.
Developing a regular exercise routine that you enjoy and is a good fit for you and your lifestyle can have numerous benefits such as increased energy, improved mental clarity, optimal digestive health, improved heart health, improved immune function and overall better mood. Exercise can also reduce the risk of depression, anxiety and stress. Not to mention weight control and muscle strengthening. Self-care is the practice of taking an active role in protecting one’s own well-being, health and happiness. Self-care is so essential to restore your mind and body, especially during seasons of stress. Self-care can mean different things to different people, the key is identifying what it means to you. This practice allows you to connect with yourself, restore your energy, clear your mind and create a peaceful balance in your life. This could be as simple as going for a walk in nature, reading a book, taking a bath, listening to some of your favorite music, or just blocking off time on the calendar for some much needed alone time. It is simply incorporating things you enjoy and love into your weekly routine to create peace, restorative energy and balance into your life.
