Ok, here’s the deal. I have been a real estate listing agent for over 30+ years. I have been a real estate listing agent coach for over 10+ years. And I am currently still selling in San Francisco. I’m not some coach in their “ivory tower” telling listing agents what to do.
And I had a great conversation this weekend with a listing agent who can’t seem to get any traction in his business. He asked me, “Chris, no bullshit, what do you have to do to be a great listing agent?”
I said, “Let me break it down for you.”
I told him “what I know for sure” is that to be a great listing agent you have to address all of the following points. If you don’t address ALL of these points in your business, you will either be mediocre, unhappy, poor, unbalanced, unhealthy or all of these.
Mindset – you have to work on this everyday. A lot of people think this is BS and too “airy-fairy”. I am here to tell you that you are wrong. This business demands it!
Health – another thing you have to work on every day. If you’re not working on your physical strength and eating well, you will fail eventually in some way shape or form. PERIOD.
Accountability – If you’re not accountable to someone for your actions, you WILL NOT be as successful as you can be. NO question.
Clear Vision – You must have a clear vision of what success means to you, where you want to go and what’s it like when you get there. EVERYONE needs to have total clarity in this.
Goals – This goes without saying. Get some!
Marketing Strategy – We all need a FUN marketing strategy that is simple to do. SIMPLE IS KEY.
Schedule – You need a simple and easy schedule that you can stick to every day. Being “loosey-goosey” with your schedule is for LOSERS.
Listing Presentation – We have to have a simple and fun strategic listing presentation that is all about building rapport and getting your ego out of the way.
A Life – You need one. You CAN have a balanced life with the right SMALL team, the right strategy and the right attitude. I am not defined by my real estate listing business, I am very successful by my standards and only work 30 hours a week selling real estate on average and have things in my life that are more important than selling listings.
If you don’t address each one of these, then you will not be as successful as you can be. PERIOD.
There, I said it.
